The original 1903 building is a historic and iconic stone architecture, built in the Beaux-Arts style consisting of Flemish bond multi-wythe brick with cut and carved limestone.
Bell & Spina performed the physical assessment of the exterior and interior of the historic library. The report documents the visual physical condition of building elements including sitework, building exterior & interiors features, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. The intent of the assessment was to provide a snapshot-in-time to offer affordable and achievable planning for the stabilization, preservation, and future growth of the library. In addition to the assessment of the building and site, Bell & Spina coordinated efforts for a library planner to assess the existing programmatic use of the library to reassign and optimize usage and update operations to meet today’s patron expectations.
The report was presented in a manner that allows prioritized and proactive attention to needed work items over several years, with the understanding that emergencies and other priorities may arise. Work elements are grouped in order of “immediate” to “long-range” priorities with budgetary ranges and estimated square footage costs for construction. The report was designed as a living document with the ability to shift and reconfigure goals and objectives, as necessary.
"Bell & Spina's impeccable credentials as exterior envelope specialists, steadfast attention to detail and unparalleled concern for a quality project, set them apart from other architectural firms."
