Bell & Spina Architects-Planners, PC Announces Change in Ownership

Bell & Spina Architects-Planners, PC is announcing the transition of ownership from Dennis Spina, a founding partner, to Neil W. Garry, Vice President and Douglas K. Arena who will assume the responsibilities of President.

Dennis’ 40-year career was indeed enriched and rewarded by having the privilege of working with so many distinguished clients, on exciting projects and with some of the best professionals in New York.

A few notable projects completed by Bell & Spina during Dennis’s tenure included: Roof and Skylight Replacement at the Everson Museum of Art (I.M. PEI building), Exterior Rehabilitation at McEwen Hall (I.M. PEI building) on the SUNY Fredonia campus, Roof Replacement at the Onondaga County War Memorial, Historic Preservation and Restoration of the Onondaga County Courthouse Roof, Roof Replacement at The Egg: Center for the Performing Arts at Empire Plaza, and Roof Replacements at Steele Hall and Bird Library on the Syracuse University campus.

Neil W. Garry, PE joined Bell & Spina in 2010 and is the Principal-In-Charge of the Rochester Office. Much of his 25-year professional career has focused on the technical aspects of building envelope systems. He is a licensed Structural Engineer (PE), Building Enclosure Commissioning Process Provider (BECxP), Commissioning Authority + Building Enclosure (CxA+BE), IIBEC Registered Roof Consultant (RRC), Registered Exterior Wall Consultant (REWC) and Thermal / Infrared Thermography – Buildings & Roofs Specific. Neil is a member of ASTM International Technical Committee DO8, Roofing and Waterproofing, and Committee E06, Performance of Buildings.

Douglas K. Arena, AIA, joined Bell & Spina in 2012 and became a Partner in 2017. Douglas is a New York State registered Architect and has training and certifications in various building performance tests and standards including infrared thermography, hygrothermal analysis (WUFI) and building envelope heat transfer analysis (THERM). He is active with the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (iiBEC), ASTM Technical Committee E06, and has published and presented seminars on building enclosure systems. He is a CNY 40 under Forty recipient and a 2018 graduate of the U.S. Small Business Administration “Emerging Leaders Program.”
